Seiko introduces the new Prospex Speedtimer Solar Chronograph SSC955P, a limited edition release marking the 2025 World Athletics Championships in Tokyo. This model blends Seiko’s heritage in sports timing with modern solar-powered technology, offering a refined yet functional design for daily wear.

The Speedtimer Legacy
The Speedtimer series is part of the Seiko Prospex collection, celebrating the brand’s long history in precision sports timing. Known for combining retro-inspired styling with contemporary watchmaking, the lineup includes both mechanical and solar-powered chronographs. The SSC955P joins the compact 39mm Speedtimer range, delivering versatility and comfort on the wrist.

The Dial

The standout feature of the SSC955P is its light purple dial, inspired by Edo purple, a colour historically associated with the city now known as Tokyo. This official tone of the World Athletics Championships Tokyo 25 is paired with black accents, creating a striking yet understated look.

The dial features:

• Faceted black hour markers with Lumibrite inserts
• Matte black sword-style hands with white Lumibrite
• Three dark-toned sub-dials
• 24-hour display, running seconds, and a 60-minute chronograph register with power reserve indicator

The watch features a 39mm stainless steel case (13.3mm thick, 45.5mm lug-to-lug) with a brushed top surface and polished case sides. A fixed black tachymeter bezel contrasts sharply with the case, while the right side hosts a screw-down crown and chronograph pushers. The stainless steel bracelet has polished centre links and brushed outer links, secured with a folding clasp.

With its distinctive dial, compact dimensions, and reliable solar movement, it is positioned as a versatile and collectible sports chronograph.

This limited edition release from Seiko is shipped with a collectible Edo Purple Seiko box and additionally includes a Seiko commemorative pin as well as a Seiko Imabari towel.
