Paying tribute to a monumental milestone in horological history, the Seiko Presage HCC005 is a modern reinterpretation of the 1913 Laurel—Japan’s very first wristwatch. By uniting cutting-edge mechanical watchmaking with centuries-old Japanese decorative arts, this timepiece serves as a masterclass in elegance and permanence.

Seiko's Presage range of dress watches have become known for its creativity and striking design. Within the collection, the Classic Series “Craftsmanship” line highlights traditional Japanese crafts, expressing the beauty of Japanese aesthetics through its dials. The HCC005 represents the pinnacle of this aesthetic and devout attention to detail. 

The centerpiece of the HCC005 is its flawless, glossy white enamel dial. Produced under the watchful eye of master enamel artisan Mitsuru Yokosawa and his apprentice Kazunori Uchiyama, the dial is created by applying finely ground enamel to a copper base, which is then repeatedly fired at temperatures approaching 800°C. This demanding traditional technique yields a pristine surface celebrated for its remarkable visual depth and resistance to fading over time.

Faithfully echoing the original 1913 Laurel, the dial design features elegant Arabic numerals—including the iconic, signature red "12"—perfectly contrasted by a sweeping blue handset and anchored by a 24-hour subdial located at 6 o'clock.

Housed in a 39.6mm stainless steel case treated with a super-hard coating, the watch balances vintage aesthetics with modern durability. It is powered by Seiko’s in-house Calibre 6R5H, an automatic movement that delivers a robust 72-hour power reserve. The movement's finishing can be admired through the screw-down exhibition sapphire caseback.

Completing the classic look is a supple, oil-tanned leather strap sourced from LWG-certified tanneries, ensuring both comfort and environmental mindfulness.

NOTE: This enamel watch dial is manufactured by firing it at a high temperature. The process of melting enamel may create small dimples, tiny dots, and a rough surface. These attributes are unique features of genuine enamel watch dials, of which no two are exactly alike.
